Personal History
My life has been shaped by exploring contrasts. I've been a logger and an artist, lived in both remote and coastal areas, and trained as a scientist while relying on intuition. After leaving the logging industry, I pursued higher education in psychology, focusing on evidence-based assessment and treatment of mental illness. I was fortunate to have mentors who encouraged both best practices and intuitive listening.
For nearly 20 years, I've been a registered clinical counsellor, helping clients with depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, relationship issues, personal growth, men's issues, and self-awareness. I am also trained in EMDR and currently training in FOT, with six years of experience as a trauma therapist. I have a long history of working with Indigenous clients.
Clinical Philosophy
I focus on clinical assessment and treatment of mental illness, promoting mental, emotional, and spiritual health. I use empirically supported techniques and prioritize ethical care, ensuring no harm. Compassion, respect, and unconditional positive regard are fundamental to my practice.
While I can work from a cognitive/behavioral perspective, my primary focus is somatic therapy, recognizing the body's key role in identifying and resolving trauma. I believe traumatic memories are stored as physical and sensory experiences, and releasing them is essential for well-being. Even without significant trauma, early childhood experiences can impact daily life. Therapy can uncover and address these ingrained patterns. My motto is, "That which we are conscious of, we can work on. That which we are not conscious of, works on us."
